Vegan restaurant

PRAGUE VEGAN GUIDE

At the start of January, Matt and I spent four days in the beautiful city of Prague. The combination of snow, beautiful architecture, christmas markets and an abundance of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants made it our new favourite city! Whilst exploring the city, we tried out as many vegan eateries as possible and I’m really happy to be able to share them all with you today.

Hotel U Bar

img_6690

Although this wasn’t a vegan restaurant, I thought I’d let you guys know about this little gem as it is one of my favourite places we visited in France, and I’m pretty sure we visited at least 3 times!! The rooftop bar has has such a fun vibe and amazing views over Prague so be sure to check it out during your visit!

Find out morehttps://www.hoteluprince.com

I can honestly say that we enjoyed the food at all of these eateries but we of course had our favourites and I’ll be writing more detailed posts about these in the coming weeks, so be sure to look out for those.

My Prague Vegan Diary video will also be going live on my youtube channel tomorrow, so look out for that if you’d like to see more behind the scenes footage of these awesome restaurants.

VEGAN IN BOURNEMOUTH: COSY CLUB

On Boxing day we visited Matt’s lovely Grandma in Bournemouth and went for a big family meal at an awesome vegan-friendly restaurant: Cosy Club.

Cosy Club has a main menu as well as a vegan menu with lots of options; however Matt and I both decided to go for the vegan breakfast made up of: grilled tomato, field mushroom, falafel, wood-roasted peppers, spinach, fried potatoes, baked beans and toast. As if that wasn’t enough, I also ordered extra hummus and avocado on the side which created the perfect breakfast combo!

img_0028

If you’re in Bournemouth and are looking for a great, vegan-friendly restaurant, then the Cosy Club is definitely worth a visit.

You can check out details of more vegan & vegan-friendly eateries that I’ve visited in Bournemouth here: https://jadegreenvegan.com/tag/bournemouth/.

VEGAN IN PHUKET: RED DUCK

If you guys follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I recently spent 2 weeks in Thailand: the first volunteering at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai and the second exploring Phuket and volunteering at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary.

Volunteering with the elephants was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and I’m excited to be sharing more about that with you guys on the blog in the coming week. In the mean time, you can watch my volunteering ‘week in the life’ at Elephant Nature Park vlog here:

If you have any questions about what it was like to volunteer at the park, please feel free to comment them under this blog post and I’ll be filming a Q&A next week to answer all of your questions :).

Now, back to the purpose of today’s post: I am super excited to tell you all about The Red Duck – an awesome vegan-friendly restaurant we found in Kata, Phuket.

The Red Duck serves delicious Thai food and has a huge variety of vegan options. Everything looked so good that we definitely had eyes bigger than our bellies and decided to order a main dish with rice each, and share some fried noodles too. Oh, and then add a dessert to that!

IMG_5756.JPG

For main, Maria and I both had the sweet and sour tofu which comes with rice and a variety of veggies and was absolutely delicious. Natalie was a little optimistic about her ability to handle Thai spices and went for the ‘mild to medium’ curry which was super yummy but hot hot hot in English terms! Without us even saying anything, the staff were so incredibly lovely and brought out lots of coconut milk to make it milder, and when they saw Natalie had only eaten half of it brought out an entirely new mild one! How lovely is that?! Finally, the vegetable fried noodles we all shared were a big hit and were definitely my favourite part of the meal!

img_2449

As if we weren’t full enough from our mains, we all ordered ice-cream for dessert (one of the fruity flavours is vegan – I can’t remember what it’s called but the staff are all super knowledgeable and helpful and the menu is clearly labelled with vegan options) and it was the perfect way to end an awesome meal!

Look out for more Thailand posts in the next couple of weeks :).

Vegan in Leeds: Pizzanet

A few weeks ago Matt and I went to Leeds for the weekend and we had an incredible takeaway from Pizzanet which I had to tell you guys about!

Matt ordered the 16″ Thin Vegan Margherita and I went for the 9″ Deep Gourmet Vegan; both pizzas were absolutely delicious and super reasonably priced (we’re talking around £15 total!).

So if you’re in Leeds and are looking for a vegan-friendly pizza takeaway, be sure to check out Pizzanet!

Potato Tomato | Vegan in Whitstable Kent

Last week, my mum, Poppy, Panda and I visited Potato Tomato – an awesome little 100% vegan pop-up restaurant located in the Whitstable Harbour Markets on the Kent Coast.

Potato Tomato serves a great variety of homemade vegan food, both hot and cold. On top of having a delicious menu, its insanely cute beach hut location, reasonably priced menu and the fact that it’s dog-friendly makes Potato Tomato the perfect place to grab lunch on a beach day out.

image

My mum and I ordered two main meals to share: the double stack cheese burger and the cornish pie with chips. I’ve never tried a cornish pasty, but according to my mum the cornish pie tasted exactly like a traditional cornish pasty, which explains why Potato Tomato is so popular with vegans and non-vegans alike. During our visit, it was so great to hear people come over who are not vegan and say how much they love the food, a real testament to how creative and flavourful Potato Tomato’s menu is.

image

The burger was stacked full with delicious ingredients including not one but two burger patties, vegan cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato and of course lots of sauce. I absolutely loved it, so much in fact that I kinda hoped my mum wouldn’t like it so that I could eat her half too but unfortunately for me she agreed that it was amazing!

image

For dessert we shared a heated chocolate orange brownie which had melted chocolate in the middle making it absolutely heavenly! We loved it so much that we bought four more to take away, as well as a piece of the lemon drizzle cake and a piece of banana, chocolate and nut cake. They were all so delicious and barely lasted a couple of days in our house!

After our visit to Potato Tomato, we spent the day chilling on the beach and walking around Whitstable Harbour Markets where we bought some art and also some veggie dog treats from The Whitstable Dog Company (which is opposite Potato Tomato)!

I vlogged our entire day at Whitstable beach, including our visit to Potato Tomato so if you’d like to see more behind the scenes, you can watch that here:

If you’re planning a trip to the Kent Coast, be sure to check out Potato Tomato for some delicious food, and all of the other awesome businesses in the Whitstable Harbour markets for a great day of beachside shopping!

VEGAN IN MALVERN |GALLERY 36

Last weekend we had a stall at the West Midlands Vegan Festival for the Jade Green Vegan Compassionate Clothing Line. We had a great weekend meeting lots of lovely people, and it was made even better by the fact that we spent a day with Matt’s mum and dad on the way home as they live fairly near by in Malvern.

Matt’s mum and dad called lots of local restaurants to see if any of their menus could be veganised and  Gallery 36 was by far one of the most accommodating. Even though Gallery 36 isn’t a specifically vegetarian/vegan restaurant, they have lots of vegetarian options and were so helpful and really knowledgable in telling us which dishes could be made vegan.

image

I ordered the Vegetarian Platter (less halloumi and aioli, add extra falafel). The platter had a great variety of veggie dishes – I especially loved the falafel and stuffed vine leaves – and was served with a big rustic baguette making it super filling.

image

Matt went for the Veggie Breakfast (less the free range egg) – another very easily veganisable dish – and absolutely loved it!

image

So if you find yourself in Malvern, I’d definitely recommend visiting Gallery 36, and be sure to ask your waiter which dishes can be veganised as there were lots of others our waiter mentioned (including the patatas bravas and the vegetable bean chilli enchiladas)!

If you’d like to watch a vlog of our weekend at the festival and in Malvern, you can check that out here:

THE TIPSY BLACK SHEEP | VEGAN IN BECKENHAM

The Tipsy Black Sheep is a veggie catering company run by two lovely girls: Hayley and Ruth. They currently have a pop-up shop in Beckenham and I was so excited to have the opportunity to check it out last week.

Hayley and Ruth were so kind and welcoming, and it was really lovely to meet two people who are so genuinely passionate about what they do. Their creative menu has such a great variety of options and is so reasonably priced, meaning we definitely had a difficult time when deciding what to order.

image

MAINS ▷▷▷

After much deliberation, I decided to order the Red Lentil Burger with coleslaw and sweet potato chips on the side. The burger patty was bursting with flavour and was accompanied by the perfect combination of delicious toppings.

image

My mum ordered the Yellow Lentil Curry with green rice and was a big fan. She (reluctantly) let me try a little bit and I agreed that it was absolutely delicious.

image

DESSERTS ▷▷▷

Both the chilli-me-sofly chocolate brownie and the banana cake looked amazing so we decided to order them both and share. Topped with caramel sauce, they were both so sweet, delicious and moist. My mum said that they are the best vegan cakes she’s ever had, and in fact, we loved them so much that my mum decided to buy another 2 of each to take away with us!

image

The warm and friendly atmosphere in the shop, coupled with the amazing food makes The Tipsy Black Sheep pop-up a must visit! So, if you find yourself near Beckenham make sure to check it out – I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as we did!

Update: unfortunately the pop-up shop has now closed but The Tipsy Black Sheep still do private catering and will soon be offering a delivery service (which I’m super excited about). You can read more about that here: http://www.thetipsyblacksheep.com/catering-menu/

VEGAN USA GUIDE | LA, SAN FRANCISCO, SAN DIEGO & LAS VEGAS

Hey everyone!

After just over two weeks travelling around the USA, I am now back in the UK and am finally getting back to my normal routine after losing almost a week to jet lag, seriously. I’d like to say that was an exaggeration but unfortunately it isn’t; for almost an entire week I was practically nocturnal – going to bed at 6am and waking up at 3pm!!

Anyway, now that I’m back home (and awake in daylight hours!) I’ve been reminiscing about all of the fun things that we did and all of the delicious vegan food we ate, and there certainly was a lot of it. We started our trip in LA, then we headed to San Francisco, then to San Diego and finally Las Vegas! I loved every one of these cities in a different way and all of them had an amazing vegan food scene (we’re talking everything from deliciously healthy cafes to late night pizza deliveries).

As always, I wanted to take you all along with me as much as possible, so I vlogged our entire trip, posted restaurant reviews, and also instagramed a lot of our #veganfoodporn! However, there were also lots of eateries we ate at that I didn’t get a chance to share with you guys, so I thought I’d create this blog post to collate all of my  vlogs and restaurant reviews from our trip, as well as adding in some of the other eateries we loved.

If you guys are from the US/travelling to the US/just curious about what the US has to offer, then I hope you find this post useful :).

ps – if you have a favourite vegan friendly eatery in any of these locations, be sure to comment it down below!

Vegan San Diego | Lean and Green Cafe

My final San Diego eatery post is about an awesome little cafe we ate at near La Jolla Cove:

Lean and Green Organic Health Bar ▷▷▷

Lean and Green Cafe uses fresh, locally sourced, organic ingredients and has lots of vegan options, so we were really excited to check it out.

Smoothies ▷▷▷

At home I usually make smoothies for breakfast every day and I really missed that whilst travelling; so, I was really happy to find somewhere that made smoothies with fresh, organic fruit. I ordered the Peach Dream – made of peach nectar, mangos, bananas and raspberries – and Matt had the Strawberry Bliss – made of apple juice, strawberries and bananas. They were both so refreshing and delicious and definitely the healthy, goodness we needed.

ps – I also love that Lean and Green Cafe use Greenware smoothie cups which are made entirely from plants – how awesome is that?!

image

Wraps ▷▷▷

Lean and Green Cafe offer a great variety of vegan options including salads, wraps and rice bowls; however, Matt and I both decided to go for one of the freshly made wraps. I ordered the Vegan Delight made up of a mix of delicious veggies, spinach and avocado; and Matt decided to order a make your own veggie wrap. He went for a bit of a weird combo: sun-dried tomatoes, beans, tofu, avocado, mushrooms & spinach but it totally worked and was actually really good!

image

If you’re looking for filling, nutritious, organic vegan food in San Diego, be sure to head to Lean and Green Cafe. They currently have 2 locations in San Diego: La Jolla and Sorrento Valley; however, we chatted to the Cafe’s lovely owner during our visit and he told us about some exciting new franchising opportunities meaning that more Lean and Green Cafes may be popping up soon!

Vegan San Diego | Kindred

Today I’m back to tell you guys about another awesome restaurant that we found in San Diego:

Kindred ▷▷▷

Kindred is an cool and edgy bar/restaurant that serves unique cocktails and inventive vegan food, all whilst playing death-metal tunes (not in a super intense way but in a this place has majorly cool vibes way). The staff are all super friendly and helpful and the decor is on point – hello white marble tables!

Drinks ▷▷▷

Before we get into the food, let’s talk about the cocktails, as 2 pages of the 4 page menu are made up of Kindred’s huge variety of creative drinks, so it’s only fair that they get a special mention. Now, I don’t really drink that often and when I do I usually stick to the same cocktails (pina colada & porn star martini) so it was exciting to mix it up and try the Depth Dweller which is made up of Strawberry Infused Rum, Campari and Lime. It was super fruity and delicious and had just the right amount of kick.

image

Starters ▷▷▷

To start off the meal, Matt ordered the Chargrilled Seitan Skewers which looked and tasted insanely like meat (and kinda freaked me out); but if like a lot of people you like the taste/texture of meat but also love animals then this would definitely be the perfect dish for you! Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get any good pictures of this dish -mood lighting + an iPhone camera doesn’t exactly make for the best photography – but don’t worry there are plenty of mouth-watering food photos coming up.

Mains ▷▷▷

For main I had the Seared Cauliflower Steak. The cauliflower ‘steak’ was served with orange squash puree, tahini beets, little puff pastries and steak sauce. This creative combination made this one of the most gourmet style vegan dishes I’ve ever eaten and it was absolutely delicious.

image

Matt ordered the Salt & Vinegar Seared Gardein, which was basically a super fancy and delicious vegan ‘fish’ style dish. It was topped with crispy battered onion rings that were absolutely amazing and complemented the ‘fish’ and tartar sauce perfectly!

image

Even though we were both so full, when we saw the Cookie Dough Truffles on the dessert menu we knew we could make a little more room and it was so worth it as they were my favourite part of the meal!

image

Kindred is such a fun place with great vibes, so if you’re in the San Diego area and fancy a great drink and/or some delicious vegan food then be sure to check it out!
