When I first became vegan, before I had even started the blog, I had my first (awesome) vegan pizza experience. I read on the PETA blog that Pizza Express had introduced a vegan pizza: the Pianta, so I immediately dragged my best friend Alfia to Pizza Express to try it out. After initial issues with the Pizza arriving with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top (naughty Pizza Express), they sent me out a new one and it was DELICIOUS. Hands down, the best pizza I’ve ever had. It is served on their classic base smothered in spicy sauce, topped with artichoke, chestnut mushrooms, pine kernels, spinach and I added some red onions.
I went back to Pizza Express this week with the same friend, and had the same pizza. I’m a creature of habit, okay?! Buuuut this time I added mushrooms and garlic oil – yummy! Who says I don’t like to try new things ;).
What’s even better is that all of their pizza bases are vegan, so you can make any pizza vegan friendly by just asking for it without cheese. Ideal! Although I really enjoyed my pizza without cheese, it’s also good to know that they offer the option of bringing in your own vegan cheese, providing it meets a couple of requirements.
There are a couple of starters that are vegan too, including olives and dough balls (substitute the garlic butter for garlic oil). With such a range of vegan options available, Pizza express is definitely a great place to hang out with your non-vegan friends as there is something for everybody!
Check out this statement on the Pizza Express website for a full list of vegan friendly dishes.
It’s great that Pizza Express cater for vegans well. It shows that many restsurants are beginning to understand the complexities of s vegan diet, that’s brilliant. Great post, Andy
Thank you Andy – vegan options are definitely becoming more and more common in mainstream restaurants which is so great for when you’re out with non-vegan friends 🙂
That’s what I was thinking. 🙂
I had this pizza a couple of months ago – so, so good! 🙂
It is so yummy – I’m glad you love it too! I actually had it again last night, along with the dough balls with garlic oil 🙂 x
