Vegan Cheese at Pizza Express!

Guys, something extremely exciting has happened: Pizza Express has launched a vegan cheese and it is delicious!

So as I’m sure you all know, Pizza Express has had an amazing cheeseless vegan pizza – the Pianta – for a while now, and their dough balls are easily veganisable by switching out the garlic butter for garlic oil.

However, with the new vegan cheese, there are now a tonne more vegan options and I couldn’t be more excited! Matt and I headed to Pizza Express to try it out last week, and it’s safe to say we are obsessed.

To start, we of course ordered the dough balls with garlic oil, and also decided to go rogue and order the garlic bread with vegan cheese and oil instead of butter. WHAT. A. GREAT. IDEA. It was one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten! Garlic bread with cheese used to be my favourite dish at Pizza Express (sometimes I would just order 2 or 3 of them instead of a pizza!!!), so I’m beyond happy that I can now enjoy a vegan version.

For main, I ordered a vegan cheese margarita with mushrooms and red onions, whilst Matt went for a vegan cheese margarita and they were both delicious. I’ve always loved the pizza express bases and their new vegan cheese is awesome, so I am definitely a fan!

Whilst the Pianta is still my favourite pizza, it’s so nice to now have the option of ordering a cheesy pizza; and one thing’s for sure, I will definitely be having the cheesy garlic bread every time I visit!

Vegan at Pizza Express

When I first became vegan, before I had even started the blog, I had my first (awesome) vegan pizza experience. I read on the PETA blog that Pizza Express had introduced a  vegan pizza: the Pianta, so I immediately dragged my best friend Alfia to Pizza Express to try it out. After initial issues with the Pizza arriving with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top (naughty Pizza Express), they sent me out a new one and it was DELICIOUS. Hands down, the best pizza I’ve ever had. It is served on their classic base smothered in spicy sauce, topped with artichoke, chestnut mushrooms, pine kernels, spinach and I added some red onions.

I went back to Pizza Express this week with the same friend, and had the same pizza. I’m a creature of habit, okay?! Buuuut this time I added mushrooms and garlic oil – yummy! Who says I don’t like to try new things ;).

What’s even better is that all of their pizza bases are vegan, so you can make any pizza vegan friendly by just asking for it without cheese. Ideal! Although I really enjoyed my pizza without cheese, it’s also good to know that they offer the option of bringing in your own vegan cheese, providing it meets a couple of requirements.

There are a couple of starters that are vegan too, including olives and dough balls (substitute the garlic butter for garlic oil). With such a range of vegan options available, Pizza express is definitely a great place to hang out with your non-vegan friends as there is something for everybody!
